I can’t believe what I learnt today and I’m here to share it with you. It’s much, much worse than I ever imagined and I want to join with you as points of light like that on a candle so we can light the way through the darkness.
Today, I could not find any pics that I could download of the January 6th insurrection on our Capitol in DC. I was surprised. But, I’m very disturbed to learn of the news that many Republicans, estimated, at 30% to favor violence in order to save politics. Yes, you heard it correctly. The Poll by Public Religion Research did a poll around the last week of September 2021 and this is what they found. Astonishing? It is to me. I had to look up what 538 thought of them.
Apparently,(PRRI) is a highly respected research group founded by Robert P. Jones and they received an A/B rating by 538 who reports and monitors most major polls.
I had to read up on its Robert P. Jones because I was skeptical. Turns out Robert P. Jones knows his stuff. He was raised down south and attended Sunday School and Church all the time.
Robert P. Jones has even written a few good books on the subject. Robert is the author of White Too Long: The Legacy of White Supremacy in American Christianity. It received quite a lot of attention. Then his most important book, also, from 2017, The End of White Christian America, a very highly-regarded and award winning book.
What I gleaned from it is this: White Supremacy is alive and thriving. And, the roots of White Supremacy are supported by the Southern Baptist mostly white churches. People may not remember but Falwell and his church were not against Abortion and Abortion rights at first. They were more or less ok with Roe vs. Wade believing that government should not play a role in reproductive rights. What they were first and foremost against were “Civil Rights”. That was what bothered them. Along with subjugation of women.
Southern Baptist along with everyone else may find it surprising that the publishing company, Broadman Press, which published their bibles is deeply rooted in Baptist life is the philosophy and theology of white supremacy.
There is a resurgence of Southern Baptist taste for undoing Civil Rights and pushing blacks back. The whites want their place as masters over blacks as their belief that God intended.
As late as the 1980s certain white preachers still espoused slogans, such as, “If we did away with Civil Rights, we wouldn’t have a welfare problem.”
We should all be concerned. So what happened as the South was largely Democratic in the past? According to Robert P. Jones there has been a switch in the race factor in the parties. The majority of Democrats used to be predominately white, but now whites only account for 30% in the party; whereas, whites account for 70% in the Republican Party.
It should be noted that of all Democrats only 11% say that violence may be the solution to setting politics straight; and 17% of Independent believe violence may be the answer to fixing politics.
This should be alarming to everyone. It’s has sociologists shocked. No one doing the research and polling expected to see such results. It is speculated that Trump may be the cause of people wanting to turn to violence to set politics straight. Many Republicans reliant on FOX entertainment news, Newsmax, and News One believe that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump. And, they have embedded themselves deeply in their muddled trenches.
And, it doesn’t help that Corporate America and their lobbyist support Republicans who support Trump along with, or even if they are spewing lies.
One thing is for sure, we need more than ever to vote the Republican out in the Mid Terms or we may be facing a blood bath and who wants that?
Not me. Hoping not you.
